Skopje's Alexander the Great Airport Ranked among Top 10 in Eastern Europe

Skopje's Alexander the Great airport, operated by TAV Macedonia, has been ranked among the top ten airports in Eastern Europe by the British SkyTrax air travel guide and ranking agency.

With the ninth place, this is the second year in a row that 'Alexander the Great' is ranked among the top 10 Eastern European airports.


Budapest tops the list, followed by Tallinn, Kiev, Riga, Belgrade, Tbilisi, Sofia, Bratislava, Skopje and Varna.

The awards were presented to airport representatives at the recent Passenger Terminal Expo in Cologne.

Overall top airports in the world, as chosen by SkyTrax, are Changi in Singapore, Incheon in South Korea, Munich, the Henada airport in Tokyo, Hong Kong, the CentrAir airport in Nagoya, Zuric, Heathrow, Kansai in Kyoto and Hamad in Doha.

"This prestigious aviation award is presented each year with 550 international airports competing with each other in areas such as check-­in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, safety, etc. TAV Macedonia is dedicated to the development of a successful leadership team and we value the role our employees have played in this," said TAV Macedonia manager Zoran Krstevski.

The Skopje airport also won the Airport Service Quality Award for 2015, among airports servicing under two million passengers. This award was received for the third time.

The Alexander the Great airport had 22 percent growth in passengers in 2015, for a total of 1.560,381. The number of airline activities stood at 15,510, a rise of 11 percent.

The trends are expected to continue in 2016, where only during the first two months, the airport handled a total of 219,378 passengers ­- an increase of 28 percent, and also saw a 15 percent increase in flights.
