Passenger traffic at Macedonia’s Skopje airport rose by 23.2% to 1.21 million in 2014 and further growth is expected this year, the airport operator, TAV Macedonia, said.
TAV Macedonia, part of Turkey’s TAV Airports Holding, has been operating Macedonia’s two airports in Skopje and Ohrid since 2010.
A dozen new routes will be launched in 2015 and, as a result, a further growth in total traffic is expected, TAV Macedonia said in a statement on its website last week, quoting its general manager Zoran Krstevski.
The most popular flight destination in 2014 was Istanbul with a 15.7% market share.
The number of aircraft movements at the Skopje airport, Alexander the Great, rose 16.3% to 13,147 in 2014. Last year, the Skopje airport handled 3,580 t of commercial cargo, up by 33%.
