Promotion of Videos on Macedonian Alternative Tourism

Under the slogan "Go Out in Nature, Go into Adventure", two videos on alternative tourism in Macedonia and Albania were promoted on Friday.

The videos promote biking, hiking, paragliding and fishing in Ohrid, Struga, Vevcani and Debarca in Macedonia, as well as Korca and Pogradec in Albania.

The ads will be broadcast at local and national media in both countries, as well as online, adn their aim is to promote the region as a tourist destinations.


The videos are part of the "Towards Alternative Tourism" project, implemented by the Macedonian Enterprise Development Foundation, in cooperation with Macedonian and Albanian partners. The EU-funded project in the amount of EUR 184,000 also includes training of tourism workers and study visits in both regions.

EU Ambassador to Macedonia, Aivo Orav, said the videos were important for tourism promotion, while one of the benefits of alternative tourism is local economic growth.

"This project, along with other initiatives, should result in attracting more visitors to the regions of Ohrid, Struga, Vevcani and Debarca. This shall be beneficial for their economic growth and social and economic development", said Orav.

He stressed the EU, under the IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Program with Albania, will provide some EUR 12 million in the 2014-2020 period. 

"There will also be a Local and Regional Competitiveness Program with EU contribution of EUR 18 million", added Orav.

The Ministry of Local Self-Government hopes the videos will contribute to the development of tourism in the targeted region.

"We will show there are many things other than the lake to attract tourists, such as hiking, biking, paragliding or fishing", said Deputy-Minister Ljupco Prendzov.

The project "Towards Alternative Tourism" is one of the 150 projects implemented in the 2007-2014 period, worth EUR 16 million.
