Organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Macedonia to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, together with the Municipality of Ohrid was presented the cultural heritage of the town. The presentation was held in the lobby of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe at the Palace of Europe, reports MIA’s reporter from Strasbourg.
This is first presentation Macedonian city at the Council of Europe and one of the few cultural events that were organized by our country in one of the oldest pan-European organization where Macedonia is member since 1995.
The Diplomatic Corps from 47 Member States and countries observers of the Council of Europe were presented with posters and photos of the most beautiful cities in Europe and the world, protected as part of the World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
The present, among whom were almost all employees of our country in the Council of Europe, as well as friends of Macedonia Strasbourg, first addressed Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the Council of Europe Peter Pop Arsov.
- This promotion of the town of Ohrid has not only the importance of promoting the city, the culture and heritage of the city, but overall it has significance for Macedonia. Here are 47 member states. Macedonia shows that is part of the European family. All promotions that are organized here are confirmation for it, said the Ambassador Peter Pop Arsov.
On behalf of the Council of Europe addressed the Director General of the Directorate for Democracy Council Snezana Samardzikj-Markovikj, which particularly insisted on the importance of this representation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Member States of the Council of Europe.
- For us, at the Council of Europe, Ohrid is extremely good example of how to reconcile the legacy and urbanization, as it sometimes is in conflict. Ohrid is example that the development does not hit the city and its beauty. We follow what is happening and Ohrid is among our most important points, not only for nature and for beauty, but because it is often host to our conferences. For us it is very important that Ohrid come, and for me personally it is a good example of Macedonia “, said the Director General of the Directorate for democracy at the Council Snezana Samardzikj-Markovikj.
At the end, Ohrid was introduced to the guests by the Mayor of Ohrid Nikola Bakracheski.
This is still our first experience with which we want to start new strategy in promotional and marketing activities for Ohrid primarily its cultural and natural heritage that Ohrid abounds. We need such promotional activities. Last year we have set task to present Ohrid in European institutions. This presentation in Strasbourg is the first stage of them, said the mayor Bakracheski.
After the brief presentation, attendees were able to satiate the culinary specialties from Ohrid with Macedonian wines and brandy, as well as Ohrid trout.
