Wall Street Journal Impressed with 'Skopje 2014'

"While the economic crisis slows the development of many European capitals, Skopje, the capital of Macedonia gets new magnificent view along the Vardar river," begins the Wall Street Journal in an article on the project "Skopje 2014".

Foreigners in this project see more than uplift and outdoor refreshment of the city. Besides urban setting Wall Street Journal thinks the project will impact on the strengthening of the national pride of the country, but also predict that Skopje 2014 "will bring an investment boom and boost tourism.

"When this grandiose endeavor was announced, many Macedonians were skeptical that it will remain on paper as numerous other initiatives. This, like most other projects of nation-building is the brainchild of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who in June is headed to early elections. With the opposition party SDSM in utter chaos and decay, Gruevski will likely win the election, " says the Wall Street.

Hoping to fill the niche for affordable accommodation for business travelers, Marriott International Inc. is building its first Balkan hotel in Skopje. Planned is a 180-room hotel in the city center near the historic Stone Bridge. Marriott said the hotel is expected to open for business in 2013.

The Skopje 2014 project is gaining popularity on major scale and has been featured in over a dozen world famous magazines and newspapers.
