Archaeological Museum of Macedonia Opens Tonight

After more than 30 years, the Republic of Macedonia will get a modern venue for proper storage and presentation of its rich cultural heritage which confirms the Millennium civilizational continuity in our region.

Valuable samples of the Macedonian cultural heritage will be presented in a new, representative building of the Archaeological Museum of Macedonia, which will be opened tonight.

More than 6,000 artifacts from all historical periods, from prehistory until the Middle Ages will be presented to the public on three floors and an area of ​​6,000 square meters



Culture Ministry said that a significant proportion of the artefacts will be presented to the public exclusively for the first time, among which are early Byzantine mosaics from archeological site Suvidol, a copy of the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great, the shield from the 3rd century BC found at the archeological site Bonce, the reconstruction of the Roman chariot from the 2nd century found in Delčev, and the glass diatretum of the 4th century.

The museum has several departments of prehistoric archeology, ancient and medieval archeology, numismatics cabinet, Lapidarium, anthropological setting. Besides the rich archaeological exhibition, the museum also features glass cabinets, 15 wax figures, 83 paintings, video-animations, ambient situations, mosaics of the valuable cultural heritage and there is also reconstruction of objects from the Neolithic.
