Macedonia offers Subsidies to Airlines for New Destinations to Spain, Scandinavia, Central Europe

New subsidies will be offered to airlines interested to establish at least four new routes between Alexander the Great Airport in Skopje and continental Europe, the Iberian Peninsula and Scandinavia, as well as at least one new destination between the St. Apostle Paul airport in Ohrid and the countries of continental Europe, Utrinski Vesnik daily reports.

The Government announced a call for submitting applications for granting financial support to domestic and foreign air carriers for the next three years. Interested companies must have achieved a profit of at least EUR 25 million and transported at least 10 million passengers in 2013.

The financial support includes lump sum of EUR 40,000 for each new destination, EUR 13 per passenger departing in the first year, EUR 12 in the second year and EUR 11 in the third year.

The selected company should no later than July 1 2015 begin operating the lines and to establish or maintain a base of at least one aircraft at the Alexander the Great airport in the period for which financial assistance is granted. The new destinations would need to be served at least twice a week.
