The latest analysis that are regularly conducted by the Centre for Public Health in Ohrid before the main tourist season show that the water in the lake is of high quality and is safe for swimming and recreation.
As it was announced at Tuesday’s press conference, a complete quality control of the water is made on the Macedonian side and the results demonstrated that the water in 90 percent of the samples checked is of first or second class.
“Physical-chemical and microbiological analyzes were made on 40 water samples. The water is of first class in the coastal area from Sveti Naum to the Park beach. Minor degradation of the second class is noted in water samples taken around the port in Ohrid, where there is bigger frequency of boats. Similar is the situation with the water quality on the Struga part of the coast, with first class in all locations except for Kalista and the estuary of the tributaries to the lake,” said Saso Tockov from the Centre for Public Health.
As for the public fountains in Ohrid and its surroundings, the water is safe to drink with all. Although no deviations are expected during the tourist season, the water quality will be constantly controlled.
