Macedonia offers extreme tourism, Byzantine and Balkan tours at Berlin fair

Macedonia is offering extreme tourism, Byzantine and Balkan tours at the international travel fair ITB in Berlin.

Several travel agencies present their offers at the Macedonian stand, organized by the Agency for Tourism Promotion and Support.
Agency representative Nikola Kostadinov told Deutsche Welle that Berlin is one of the 17 fairs that Macedonia will take part in 2013.

According to him, the number of tourists visiting Macedonia rises by the year.
"This year we will focus on tourists from Finland and Sweden, whereas the Berlin event will be used for contacts with German tour-operators. The idea is to attract their interest towards organizing charter-flights to Macedonia, taking into account the state subsidies of EUR 65 per foreign tourist", said Kostadinov.

Unlike past years, when Ohrid was in the focus, this year is is a bit different. The country has become a revelation for extreme sports followers from the German-speaking regions, but also connoisseurs of Byzantine culture from Japan. Moreover, tourists from Australia, Korea, Turkey come to Macedonia and the Balkans, reports Deutsche Welle
