Due to the tough global economy, neither Hilton nor Excelsior will build hotels on the attractive land in Ohrid's Gorica complex, for which the Macedonian government has been trying to find an investor for four years. Instead, a Macedonian company "Develop Group" will build there.
The same company will build a hotel of the renowned chain Marriott International, the first in the Balkans, at the Skopje square. The investment of EUR 37 million is far lower than the one in Gorica.
At the public auction, in which three companies participated, the new owner bought the attractive location on the Ohrid Riviera for a little more than EUR 1 million. Develop Group will build a luxurious hotel and tourist-catering complex there.
