Bombarded Church in Old Dojran to be Opened for Visitors

One of the biggest and oldest religious temples in the country, the church St. Prophet Ilija in Old Dojran, will be opened again for the public in 2016, when the town will mark the 100-year anniversary since its destruction in World War I, Dnevnik daily reads.

The municipal authorities inform that the inside of the church’s walls is being repaired at the moment, which is a task sponsored by the Ministry of Culture with MKD 300,000.

They also need to complete the necessary conservation and construction work before the church is put back to use, including painting the walls, placing windows and doors, as well as construction of a new iconostasis.

Previously, the conservation process of the east facade has been completed, as well as the rooftop surfaces. The parts of the facade that were damaged during the World War I bombardment will be restored in accordance with the original masonry.
