Tikves Wines Win New World Certificate of Quality

Eight types of wine produced by Tikves Winery have received high grades on quality by the world famous wine critic Robert Parker and "Wine Advocate".

The 2012 red wine "White Water" received high 95 points, therefore confirming the grade it received two years ago. The 2011 red wine "White Water" received 94 points, whereas the 2011 and 2012 "Barovo" red wine got 93 points, the 2012 and 2013 white "Barovo" wine got 89 points, and the 2012 white wine "White Water" got 90 points, and of the 2013 – 92 points.

"The 2012 "White Water" has exceptionally rich flavor and multi-layered character… It is a Macedonian wine to be enjoyed slowly, which remains incredibly drinkable and balanced," said Robert Parker and the "Wine Advocate" team.

The President of Tikves Managing Board, Svetozar Janevski, deems the success story of the Tikves wines is largely due to the collaboration with Phillippe Cambie, one of the most renowned wine consultants in the world. He recommended the entire wine production process to be changed, from planting the grape to maintaining the vineyards, all the way to the technological processing of the grapes.

"This success confirms that our wines can stand side by side with world elite wines. Receiving high grades again, this time for eight wines, is a proof of the quality consistency in all stages of production and a great incentive for Tikves Winery export aspirations. Furthermore, such recognition can be used in the efforts to create identity of the entire Macedonian wine industry in the wine world," Janevski said at today's press conference.

He pointed that a confirmation of quality by the most famous wine critic in the world so far was given only to wines from France, Spain and Italy and now - to Tikves.

Tikves Winery Director, Igor Ilievski, said the grades by the "Wine Advocate" and Robert Parker have multiple importance for the company.

"With continuity we have confirmed the strategy of quality instead of quantity. These high grades are the best recommendation for the US consumers as the world's most influential wine market, reflecting its effects on the European market and China's market as well. Additionally, the grades position Tikves on the world map of high quality wine makers and a leader of the Macedonian wine industry," Ilievski said.

Last year in Macedonia, the overall consumption of wine produced by all Macedonian wineries has increased by 15%.

Tikves Winery expects to double or even triple their export this year, and it announced novelties in the upcoming period. Their focus will be on the US market, not excluding the markets in China and Russia, which are the fastest growing ones.

Over a third of the total bottled wine export from Macedonia is produced by the Tikves Winery.
