TOURISM DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY FOR SAR PLANINA REGION PRESENTED
Tetovo, 27 March 2011 (MIA) - Tourism and natural potentials, the culture and tradition of the region of Tetovo and Popova Sapka were promoted Sunday in the frameworks of "Exploring Macedonia" project.
Minister of Economy Fatmir Besimi together with the ambassadors of US and EU - Phillip Reeker and Peter Sorensen respectively - visited the region.
The potential of the region for tourism is evident, however investments are needed, according to Minister Besimi. "The tourism development strategy, which was presented today, paves the way investors to come in the region, which is one of Macedonia's main winter centers," he said.
"Tourism is one of the main branches in the world according to revenues. Macedonia has a natural potential, but the world has to be informed about it, thus efforts has to be made," said US Ambassador Reeker.
Ambassador Sorensen said that EU through regional programs would assist Macedonia to develop this sector, because "tourism is a key to country's development".
The number of tourists visiting Popova Sapka has increased by ten percent in 2010 compared to 2009, mainly due to the activities and promotions conducted in the past couple of years.
