The European Union IPA program for cross border cooperation will fund several new tourist attractions in Dojran, including the first gondola that will carry tourists over the lake.
"Our priority in the program is to build a water park, that will include the water gondola. We hope it will be up and running during the Summer tourist season", Dojran mayor Borce Stamov said.
Other projects in the small lakeside city on the border with Greece will include mapping bicycle and trim trails across the city, and up the hills overlooking Dojran, which include numerous reminders of the World War One battles that destroyed this once major city.
Dojran, and the neighbouring Greek municipality of Kukus jointly work on the project that will bring about 800.000 EUR from EU IPA funds.
