Macedonian airports fly high: Number of Passengers Increased by 17 Percent

The number of passengers at the airports in Ohrid and Skopje within the first nine months of 2016 has increased by 17 percent compared to the same period last year. Airport concessionaire TAV Macedonia said Friday the most frequent destination was Istanbul, followed by Zurich, Vienna, Basel, Malmo and London.

WizzAir was the leading airline, followed by Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Germania Flug AG and Pegasus Airlines.

TAV Macedonia announces new destinations and visits by tour-operators. "We expect further growth of air traffic with the introduction of the new destinations Hanover by the end of October and Doha at the onset of 2017 thus making our airports more attractive and visible for global airlines and tour-operators", said company director-general Zoran Krstevski.

Polish tour-operators will visit Macedonia over the course of the month to inspect possibilities for introducing charter flights from Warsaw and Katowice to Ohrid during the 2017 summer season, while French tour-operators have completed their visit for the same purpose.

"TAV Macedonia is in contact with other tour-operators from Germany, Israel, Greece, Russia and Scandinavian states towards increasing the number of flights at the Ohrid-based airport", reads the press release.
