Charter flights from Belgium to Ohrid with “Thomas Cook” by next year

One of the largest and oldest tour operators in Europe, the group “Thomas Cook” next year officially starts working in Macedonia. It will organize charter flights Belgium – Ohrid and accommodation in Ohrid, said Vice Premier for Economic Affairs Vladimir Peshevski and Director of the Agency for Promotion and Support of Tourism Kristijan Dzambazovski.

Our contracts with hoteliers, already 16 have been signed and the next week will be available on the website of “Thomas Cook” for booking.

Details on flights and all arrangements will be defined later, but it is certain, as noted Peshevski, there will be at least one charter per week. If necessary, the number of flights will increase.

– The signing of these agreements will contribute to improving the foreign tourist market in the country, direct benefits will have accommodations, and the inflow of foreign tourists will further reinvigorate the local economy first, and then the economy at the state level, underlined Vice Premier after meeting Felix Hortolami manager of the contracting company “Thomas Cook” for Belgium, which was attended by Dzambazovski.


According to him, the Government and the Agency devoted much attention and effort to attract the group “Thomas Cook”. – We maintain communication for longer period with their representatives, they were presented with the tourism product, the potential of Macedonia as yet undiscovered European tourist destination and the conditions offered by the Government to subsidize the investment in tourism and marketing, informed Peshevski.

And the director of the Agency Dzambazovski said that after long negotiation, “Thomas Cook” confirmed the presence in Macedonia for next year, i.e. placing the country on their tourism network across Europe. But in the meantime, there are, he  emphasized, negotiations with other international tour operators.

– The Government of Macedonia strives to become developed tourist country. Proof of this is the statistics, which confirms that in the past eight or nine years we have increased by over 100 percents of foreign visitors, mentioned Dzambazovski.

In the first half of this year, over 206,000 foreign tourists have visited Macedonia, which is for 11.6 percent more than the same period last year. The number of tourists from Belgium, however, shows increase of 42 percents.

– Efforts of the Government would contribute to further increase the number of foreign tourists in the second half of 2015, said Peshevski, announcing that the Government will continues the support to tour operators especially those realized with foreign tourist market in order to open new tourism markets, improve conditions for Macedonia’s tourism products and expanding the offer.

Manager for contracting from “Thomas Cook” for Belgium Hortolami past few days stayed on Ohrid and Struga coast where with the mediation of the Agency met with hoteliers and signed framework agreements for arrangements.

“Thomas Cook” was established in 1841, serves over 22 million customers and total sales of its arrangements is over nine billion pounds.
