Ohrid to connect with world capitals

As of New Year Day, the Ohrid airport “St. Paul the Apostile” will establish regular air lines to Slovenia, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.

On the initiative of Mayor Nikola Bakracheski, the Ohrid local government already set aside 6 million denars for subsidies for the low-budget airline companies for 2013. Just as much assets are expected to be set aside by Struga.

-Our plans are to increase this amount for the next year to 12 million denars to subsidize regular flights from Ohrid Airport. And I hope that the Mayor of Struga will follow our move, and today we received assurances that Struga as well will ask the Council to adopt a decision to subsidize these flights – Mayor Nikola Bakracheski said.

Analyses made in the past five months have shown that even 30% of passengers at the Skopje airport live in the Southwest region of the country. The cheap airlines will facilitate traveling for citizens of Ohrid, Struga, Debar, Kicevo, Bitola, Pogradec and Korca.

- I hope to increase the frequency and other airline companies to join. For now, interested in establishing airline flights are “Wizz Air” and “Adria Airways” – Bakracheski added.

The establishment of regular lines with low-cost airline companies is expected to increase the number of tourists in Ohrid.
